Monts de Oca, Faith

8th Grade Science   Mrs. Monts de Oca

Week of September 14th:

Monday: Students will review pages 2,3 and 4 of their binders on earthquakes.  Students are expected to have an understanding on what areas of the world are at highest risk for earthquakes and WHY.

Tuesday:  Quiz over earthquakes and reading on mitigating natural disasters.

Wednesday:  Students will ‘play’ with shake tables to test how certain materials, structures and foundations hold up in an ‘earthquake.’

Thursday:  I will be at a conference so students will work individually on a Claim, Evidence and Reasoning assignment.

Friday:  Continue play with shake tables in preparation for RESEARCH next week.

** Any student not happy with their grade has been encouraged to schedule a brief meeting with me to discuss our plan for success.  Many students are not used to studying or are studying in an ineffective way and a few small changes can make a big difference!

  Student Expectations:
1. Come to school!  If you miss class, YOU are responsible for getting your work, completing it and turning it in on time.
2. Have your materials ready.  Something to write with, paper, and your organized binder.
3. Be ready to work.  There is a time and place for goofiness, and it isn't always science class :)
4. Communicate with me.  I can't help you if I don't know you need help!
5. Outside work.  For most students, it is NECESSARY to study outside of class.  5-15 mnutes of review at home a day can boost your knowledge and scores dramatically.
